Preview: “there are two types of being in the universe…”

I know sequels are usually rubbish (see below). But I can’t help hoping this movie will at least retain some of the greatness of the original “Guardians of the Galaxy”.

The trailer has two good points:

  • a promising soundtrack
  • a fine line: “There are two types of beings in the universe.  Those who dance.  And those who do not.”  This is a pretty good distinction.

The trailer also has one bad point:

  • not much evidence of anything new or original from the previous outing.

I am of course a congenital optimist and lover of good sci-fi and comedy, so will continue to hope that “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” will be brilliant.  Watch this space.

Or, if you want a dose or realism, check out this earlier review of why we keep going to see film franchises despite overwhelming evidence that they’ll be piss-poor.

P.S. Sadly, it turned out that my caution about whether “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” would be any good or a piss-poor apology for a movie was 100% justified.  See my review of the movie – and the Lego Batman movie, equally tragic – here.  How can you have music in the trailer which isn’t even in the movie?  I despair.
